Paphos Municipal Market in Ktima Paphos is one of the things high on the tourist trail. 

It has a reputation of being vibrant and interesting.  With a reputation like that, we got out early, and headed into Paphos to check it out. 

Did it measure up?  Not at all.  In fact, we’d suggest its worth avoiding.

Caves in Kato Paphos decorated with religious artifacts

Paphos comes in two distinct parts; Kato Paphos being the bit beside the sea, Ktima Paphos being the old town perched on a hill. The divide between the two is an escarpment – at places quite a steep cliff.

Into this cliff there are caves in a number of places. They’re all a bit spooky, in different ways.  Many are used for religious purposes, though for what religion isn’t clear.

Getting back out into the sunshine, the walk along beside the escarpment is good, especially to the east of the Kato Paphos bypass.  The rock formations are pretty interesting, and the peace and quiet is a million miles from the bustle of Paphos.  As you walk along, look out for shapes that remind you of things.

The Monastery of the Priests – Agia Moni – is located in Paphos Region between the village of Statos and the Monastery of Chrysorrogiatissa.  It is built in a beautiful situation, far from the bustle of everyday life.

Agia Moni is considered as one of the most ancient monasteries of Cyprus.  It has been rebuilt recently and belongs to the Holy Monastery of Kykkos.  It is thought the name – Monastery of the Priests – derives from the fact that many priests lived there in the past.
