Troodos Rally 2009 - Special Stage 13 - Argaka: Car no. 1, a Subaru Impreza N15 2009 driven by Nasser Al-Attiyah and Giovanni Bernacchini. They went on to win the rally. 11 October 2009.

Half way through the 2010 Middle East Rally Championship Nasser Al-Attiyah is the defending Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) Champion (and Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) driver.

Nasser Al-Attiyah is currently sitting third on the MERC leaderboard – 8 points off the lead.

Can we expect to see you competing all 4 of the remaining MERC rounds? Will you be taking part in any other upcoming IRC events?

Yes, sure I will be in the four rallies and maybe Scotland in the IRC to prepare for Rally GB.

In terms of MERC events in Cyprus, you’ve enjoyed an amazing run of victories. How much does that boost your confidence?

I always feel at home during Cyprus rallies and I hope I will win this year also.

Should we expect to see you challenging for overall victory in the 2010 FxPro Cyprus Rally, or will you be happy just to be the highest-placed MERC entrant?

I will do my best to win, as with all the rallies, and will try to show the IRC drivers my speed as during the S-WRC!

In terms of MERC, who do you think will be your toughest rivals here in Cyprus? Same question for the IRC?

In MERC, I think the Cypriot drivers will be my rivals. In IRC, Hanninen and Meeke will be very fast I think.

Once again, the FxPro Cyprus Rally will be a mixed surface event. For the drivers, how will this compare to a conventional single-surface event?

I think for the drivers it will be ok, but it will be more of a challenge.

The Love Cyprus Golden Stage Rally promises to showcase rallying in a new and exciting way. Are you planning to take part? Do you think innovation like this is important to the sport?

Sure, it will give big support. For the drivers, they will try to show their speed… and have a real bonus for this speed. For the TV [audiences] and spectators, it will be big fun also.

Cyprus is a well-established holiday destination. What do you think this brings to an international rally..? And do you also get the chance to relax and enjoy something of that holiday atmosphere when you are competing here?

As I said before, I always feel at home and among family when I’m in Cyprus. I have a lot of friends and fans here and I like the weather, the sea and the mountains in Cyprus. And the Cypriot food!

So you are looking forward to the 2010 FxPro Cyprus Rally and the Love Cyprus Golden Stage Rally?

Believe me, I will compete … To show my speed in front of a lot of good drivers!

As we approach the end of the 2010 rallying season, can you let us know what your plans are for 2011 and beyond..? MERC..? IRC..? WRC..?

For sure I will do the MERC with my same team and sponsor Barwa. WRC also, but I still don’t know in which category – S-WRC, or with a WRC car. I’m still talking with Barwa about this. I would like to thank Barwa one more time for the big support that they give me and will give me in the future.
